If you somehow missed picking up issue #156 of Computer Arts magazine, which contains my tutorial entitled Creating the New Retro, it is now available as a PDF download from the Computer Arts website. You can check it out right here:
Creating the new Retro: Tutorial by James White
Many people have contacted me regarding when this tutorial would be available online, however I strongly recommend picking up the issue if you have the means. Lots of great stuff in there.
I love how this tutorial is no-nonsense. Very nicely done. Nice foreword, too.
Thank you so much for writing this. I really like your style so it was cool to get a chance to see how you work. One question, how did you make the flair element?
Again, thanks for sharing :)

Kevin, the flair element is a photo of an eclipse taken from the earth’s orbit. I discovered it ages ago and it works quite well for light bursts. I haven’t been very successful creating my own flairs because they look too synthetic in Photoshop.
I didn’t expect the tutorial to be downloaded online. But I’m still planning to go buy the magazine. My first ever Computer Arts Magazine. Just because of your tutorial. I sound like a real ‘James White-geek’.
Keep up the good work!
