John Berkley

Beautifully rendered ship and space scenes by the talented John Berkley. Really enjoying John’s painterly style, and how he manages to sneak in so many vibrant colors into the ships’ face, blasters and thrusters.I would love to have that second image hanging on my wall.

I was unable to find an official site for John, but check out this massive gallery. Amazing.

I love concepts for spaceships, they always make me want to try coming up with a few myself. Kevin, great link by the way.

I have a book of 70s/80s Starship paintings. I prefer a lot of the vibrant 70s designs, I tend to buy older versions of Asimovs books for this very reason.

As well as the obvious old Sci-Fi book and magazine covers also check out: The Art of Mass Effect, HomeWorld 1+2 and Out of the Blue by ELO.

“John Berkey passed away yesterday.”

So sad. And I had only just discovered him.

He also gave us two of the coolest 70s movie posters–JAWS and the ’76 KING KONG remake (one of my all time faves).
