I received my fresh copy of Computer Arts #156 in the mail a few days ago, which contains the tutorial I wrote entitled ‘Creating the New Retro’.

As I previewed earlier on the site, the tutorial walks through the steps taken to create the piece above outlining my process behind creating the retro-style colored lines prevalent in my artwork. It’s always a pleasure to work with the kind folks over at Computer Arts, especially for such a great opportunity.

The issue should be available worldwide now, just watch for the killer cover designed by Hvass&Hannibal.

Congratulations! It must be great to see your work in print. I imagine that it would never get old! Computer Arts is a great publication; you should be proud to be a part of it.

I got my copy a few days ago too. Thanks for the tutorial, I might have a go at doing some similar artwork soon!

Hi

I live in Belgium and I know one store where they sell it Computer Arts. It’s in Antwerp, one hour driving from my place.
You can’t take a subscription here in Belgium, very annoying. But … I have this one with indeed an amazing cover and your tutorial!

Awesome! I was looking for that the other day, but it was still last month’s issue they had on the shelves. I will return to el magazine store.

I think it would be safe to assume no one else we went to college with has had a tutorial featured in Computer Arts. Well, I guess I haven’t stayed in touch with Pete or Ross. So you never know…

Ouch James!

I just got to work, loaded up your site and saw the CA cover and images and thought today was that special day! I still haven’t snatched a copy of the magazine and this is just cruel and unusual punishment seeing just a little bit more of the tutorial!

I’ll have to stop by B&N this weekend to check it out. Congrats

I’ve already seen it in the shops. I think I’ll buy this one. I’ve NEVER bought a Computer Arts magazine. But this one will be my very first. Thanks man. Keep it up!

Congrads James. This might motivate me to start buying CA mags again. Plan on posting a version of this on your site?

james 7:47 am - 16th December

Zepho and Justin, Computer Arts posts tutorials on their site after the issues leave the newsstands, so it is ultimately up to them for web release. When I see the tutorial on their site I will check to see if I am permitted to post it on my own website. That probably won’t be until January, so until then it will only be available in paper version.

Hi James

Would you consider posting your tutorial on your blog? I tried to get my hands on a copy of Computer Arts but it’s no longer available.
